THERAPIST
Emilee Grossi, MSW, Supervisee In Social Work
Emilee Grossi is a Supervisee in Social Work. I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and moved to Virginia in 2016. I spent most of my time in Virginia living in the Hampton Roads areas and am excited for the possibilities that await my new residency in Richmond. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in psychology from The College of William & Mary in 2021.
The subject matter I focused on were various neurological, biological, psychological, physiological, and behavioral components of mental health and substance use disorders. I quickly entered the mental health field afterwards working as an Emergency Service Clinician at my local Community Services Board. I worked with underserved and marginalized populations to assist them through behavioral health crises. I also continued my education by pursuing my master’s degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University.
I am thrilled to expand my clinical skills and work towards licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). My educational, professional, and personal experiences have shaped my passion for improving mental health services.
Many individuals face unique stressors that can be challenging to navigate through. I believe in the value of providing guidance, compassion, and most importantly, grace, through these experiences. As Maya Angelou states, “we delight in the beauty of the butterfly but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty”. I have a wide experience working with individuals experiencing systematic inequalities, those diagnosed with serious mental illness to include bipolar disorder and schizophrenia disorders and subtypes, transitions, life stressors, relationship challenges, substance use, anxiety, and depression.
I specialize in trauma-informed care and adverse childhood experiences. I am open to working with clients of all ages and stages of life to include children, adolescence, young adulthood, marriage and families, grief, and loss. Some of my favorite approaches include: I approach my clients with the expectation that they are the subject matter experts of their mental health. I use a person-centered approach to guide and facilitate the goals set forth by themselves. I provide unconditional positive regard for the challenges and strength it takes to be present and to care for one’s mental health. My approaches will always be tailored to the specific needs of my clients.
Additional modalities that I utilized are:
● Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
● Trauma-Focused Cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT)
● Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
● Solution-focused therapy (SFT)
● Motivational interviewing
● Structural family therapy
● Systems theories
● Grounding and Meditation techniques
Outside of work, I love spending time with my friends, family, and animals. I also enjoy traveling and experiencing new cultures, staying outdoors, practicing yoga, and attending community events. I love working with.
