Matthew Barber, LPC, helps adults navigate life's challenges, collaborating with people in their journey toward greater fulfillment, purpose, and authenticity.
Matthew provides a warm, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where clients can freely explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. He believes therapy works best when people feel genuinely heard and unconditionally supported. Matthew helps his clients identify what truly matters to them, collaborating on meaningful actions they can take to move toward their goals, particularly during moments of life transition or struggles with anxiety, depression, languishing, and with ADHD or addiction. Matthew practices with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Existential Psychotherapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), and Motivational Interviewing, and also draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). In the past, he has supported diverse populations in individual and group settings, including leading groups focused on addiction recovery and mental health.
Matthew earned his Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2022 and is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia. He offers both in-person and virtual therapy sessions. Matthew is LGBTQIA+ affirming, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive, ensuring an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone. He works with adults aged 18 and up, and offers individual, couples, and group therapy.
