THERAPIST
Adria Gardner, LPC
I once had a client compare meeting a new therapist to being on a blind date. No one therapist approaches challenges the same way and we are all unique just like you. While it may feel like being on a blind date, reading a therapist’s bio is a way to take some of the guesswork out of the equation.
I received my M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Frostburg State University in 2005 and became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2013. Over the years I have had the privilege of working with a diverse population of individuals including LGBTQ+ and adults with Mild Intellectual Disability. While my counseling background is primarily based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I also draw from Acceptance Commitment Therapy and Motivational Enhancement Therapy. I have experience counseling individuals struggling with challenges such as anxiety, depression, adjusting to change, self-exploration, social skills training, stress management, inattention, assertive communication, and anger management.
One of the aspects I love regarding counseling is there can be more than one way to achieve a desired outcome, meaning everyone’s therapeutic journey is uniquely different. We can talk, draw, create sensory bottles, do simple yoga poses - the only thing we are limited by is our imagination. Part of my hope with clients is that I help them see that they are much stronger than they initially acknowledged. Let’s face it, we make it through 100% of our worst days - let’s keep that track record going!
Thank you for reading my bio. I look forward to meeting with you soon. Until then, take care!
