Haley Alvis, MS, Resident In Counseling, CASC Supervisee, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant

Haley Alvis is a compassionate and dedicated resident in counseling committed to providing personalized, collaborative support to individuals navigating their unique life journeys. Her passion for helping others began early when she started her healthcare career as a certified medical assistant in high school. During this time, she developed a deep interest in Psychology and Sociology, which led her to pursue a degree in Psychology at Old Dominion University, where she also minored in Addiction Prevention & Treatment. While at ODU, Haley balanced her academic pursuits with a full-time position at VCU Health Systems, strengthening her commitment to mental health counseling.

Determined to follow her calling, Haley enrolled in Longwood University’s CACREP-accredited Master’s program in clinical mental health counseling. Her dedication was recognized when she was invited to join the National Honor Society and appointed treasurer during her second semester. Throughout her graduate studies, Haley gained valuable hands-on experience working in private practice and as a case manager at Chesterfield Community Services Board, where she focused on supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Now a Resident in Counseling and Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) Supervisee with Resilience, Haley specializes in a range of areas, including rare and chronic health conditions, women's health, grief and loss, caregiver burnout, and substance use. She also works with clients dealing with anxiety, depression, and life transitions. In addition, Haley is currently working on co-publishing a research paper on menopause, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and their impact on mental health, further contributing to her expertise in the field. An active member of the Virginia Counseling Association, American Counseling Association, and The Food Allergy Counselor, Haley is deeply committed to professional development and advocacy. She is currently serving as secretary for the Virginia Association of Addiction Counselors. She has presented at state conferences on topics such as menopause and co-led several support groups.

Haley takes a holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally competent approach to counseling, working with individuals aged 8 and older. She tailors her methods to meet each client’s needs, incorporating techniques like values-based living, art, play, and music to promote healing and personal growth. She is particularly focused on creating a calm and supportive environment, ensuring clients feel safe and empowered throughout the therapeutic process. With a strong belief in the resilience of her clients, Haley is passionate about helping individuals thrive and lead fulfilling, meaningful lives.Haley Alvis is a compassionate and dedicated resident in counseling committed to providing personalized, collaborative support to individuals navigating their unique life journeys.
