Larry J. Colby, LPC
Larry J. Colby is a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as a Licensed Secondary Education Teacher. Larry completed his Bachelor’s in Secondary Education with a dual major in Speech Communication and Psychology at Eastern Michigan University in 2003. He completed his Master’s in Mental Health Counseling at Walden University in 2013. Larry completed his counseling internship at a sexual abuse center and a private alternative school.
Larry began his teaching career at a career center in Michigan, teaching English to struggling students. He has also taught high school AP English and ESOL in Puerto Rico and honors English, as well as inclusion classes in Virginia.
Larry has extensive experience working in residential settings, Intensive In-home Counseling, and out-patience counseling. Larry continues to provide supervision for in-home counseling and is a state approved supervisor for LPC licensure. Larry has provided staff training in verbal de-escalation, human development, communication, and understanding play therapy. Larry has been trained as an RBT for ABA therapy, Play Therapy, EMDR, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. He has also been trained as a co-parenting trainer for the courts and has studied Orton-Gillingham multisensory learning and the Lindamood-Bell Language Learning theory.
Larry uses the power of connection in Play Therapy to help youth overcome obstacles in their life. He uses EMDR, solution focused, and dialectical behavioral therapy to help individuals move beyond their personal barriers in life.
Larry’s professional mission is to help struggling individuals and their family overcome personal barriers and find peace within their lives. He believes that healing requires us to set aside blame and focus on relationship building and problem solving. Larry’s personal mission statement is to empower others to find HELP in life, which stands for Health, Enlightenment, Love, and Prosperity.

Play therapy for children and adolescents
EMDR for ages 10 and above
Dialectical behavioral therapy and solution focused therapy for ages 8 and above.
