RESILIENCE: A BUILDING INNER STRENGTH JOURNEY: EPISODE 2
Our second episode of our podcast features Katelyn Kiley, LPC. Katelyn discusses her journey to becoming a counselor and also gives a great discussion on EMDR.
Katelyn Kiley is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia. She received her BA from the University of Virginia and her M.Ed in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The College of William and Mary. She has experience working with adolescents, adults, families, and groups in community and outpatient settings.
As a therapist, Katelyn is thoughtful, nonjudgmental, and compassionate. Her approach is trauma-informed and strengths-based, which means that she takes care to establish a safe and supportive environment for change and assists clients with uncovering and emphasizing the skills and strengths they already have in order to support them in enacting the changes they’d like to see in their lives. She’s spent the past several years doing clinical work in the community with high-risk adolescents, adults, and families, and has been intensively trained in Functional Family Therapy. As an FFT clinician, she conducted family therapy with families facing complex challenges, including court/legal involvement, divorce, CPS involvement, suicidal ideation and self-harm, substance use disorders, and PTSD and other trauma-related disorders. In addition to her work as an FFT clinician, she’s provided intensive in-home therapy services to high-risk adolescents, parent support services, therapeutic mentoring, and outpatient counseling and advocacy work with survivors of sexual and domestic violence.
As a result of her clinical experience, Katelyn is a well-rounded professional who is equipped to support clients as they work with whatever challenges they face. This includes but is not limited to: anxiety, depression, and trauma, as well as managing stress, navigating life transitions, and coping with interpersonal difficulties. She enjoys working with clients to help them connect to their present-moment experience and explore their values in order to discover what they need to create a life that is meaningful and fulfilling for them. Her therapeutic approach is individually tailored to her clients’ needs and interests, and may utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Collaborative Problem Solving, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills, mindfulness, and creative interventions such as writing and art therapy activities. Katelyn is trauma-informed, EMDR certified, LGBTQIA+ competent/affirming, and a culturally competent therapist. She works with individuals aged 12 and up, families, and couples.
