Shaneka Owusu, MS, Resident In Counseling
Shaneka Owusu is a Resident in Counseling working to obtain clinical hours in pursuit of becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor. Mrs. Owusu is a Qualified Mental Health Professional for both children and adults. She received her Bachelor’s of Science from Virginia State University in 2013 and her Master's of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling and Mental Health Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2020. She maintains a professional membership with the American Counseling Association.
During her time in graduate and undergraduate school, she has worked in and provided clinical services for a variety of settings including home based services, community based services, and residential services. Most of Mrs. Owusu’s career, she has worked with children and families, teenagers, and young adults. She has experience in working with individuals from various backgrounds and cultures. She also has experience and training with individuals who experience emotional and or behavioral disturbances which include; but not limited to anxiety, depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, trauma, self-esteem issues, emotional dysregulation, suicidal ideation and self-harming behaviors.
Mrs. Owusu’s passion has always been to help others in the community. She thrives to create a warm and welcoming environment through allowing others to be and feel heard in a safe space. She uses a variety of techniques to assist young people with managing their emotions and learning adaptive skills to navigate through life. Mrs. Owusu believes that life is all about the connections people make with one another and having a connection with a therapist is one of the most meaningful and powerful connections to have.
