NURSE PRACTITIONER

Victoria Tamayo, PMHNP

Victoria Tamayo is Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the George Washington University after initially obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Miami. She then earned her Master of Science degree at Regis College. She holds a national board certification with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.

As a postpartum and neonatal intensive care clinical nurse, I was exposed to a variety of psychosocial issues, including adoption, HIV in pregnancy, sexual assault, sex trafficking, teen pregnancy, grief regarding postnatal demise, substance use, and mental illness, which evoked my passion for mental health.

I have continued my work at Central State Hospital on the only women’s maximum security psychiatric ward in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. The opportunity to work at Central State Hospital has strengthened my commitment to mental health.

I collaborate with different disciplines to provide respectful and trauma-informed care to ensure our patients receive quality and compassionate treatment.
