Wayne Prebor, LCSW
Wayne is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who graduated with an Undergraduate Degree in Philosophy at Old Dominion University, and earned Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. Wayne has 10 years of experience in the field and has practiced in a variety of settings including; Mental Health Day Support, McGuire Veterans Administration (VA) Medical Center, Elder Care, In-Home Care, Grief Counseling, and Hospice. Wayne has extensive experience working with individuals with depression, anxiety, severe mental illness, trauma experiences, grief, and substance abuse issues.
Wayne is convinced that with kindness and empathy he can assist those who are struggling with these issues and other everyday life issues to meet their goals and overcome obstacles. Everyone could use a little help sometimes getting through difficult life experiences. Mental health issues are more common than people think and no one should be ashamed for seeking out help. Whether you have had a lifetime of struggles or just need some help getting through a current situation, he is here for you. He would like to allow you to lead the way, and will provide you some gentle guidance and active listening as you work through your challenges together.
Wayne was born in Norfolk, VA and grew up in Hawaii and Virginia Beach. Wayne’s father served in the Marine Corps, and his mother is also a social worker. Through their influence, Wayne found a deep sense of service and compassion. Working to keep things light hearted, Wayne is always ready to laugh with you and celebrate your achievements. Wayne currently lives in Richmond, Virginia with his wife and toddler. Wayne is an enthusiastic listener of all types of music, world traveler, and lover of food. He loves the strange and unusual and does not like to take himself too seriously.
Wayne subscribes to a holistic approach to therapy. In practice he utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy, family systems theory, existential theory, and motivational interviewing to develop a plan that will work for you.
